There are some phrases that people use as a guide in their life. But often our experience tells us that they are not really true. Of course, phrases like “Appearance doesn’t matter” or “If you tell me the truth, you won’t get into trouble” are partially true, but there are many nuances.
We found this Reddit topic where people honestly talk about phrases that are not true. We also illustrate some of these situations based on our own experiences. And the bond shows how society has influenced us for years and then forces us to act the other way around.
“If You Tell Me The Truth You Won’t Get Into Trouble”
As a child, I learned that if I lied well enough to get away with it, there would be no punishment. I am cautious when it comes to punishing my children when they are honest with me because I do not want them to associate honesty with punishment, although it is less punishment than lying. © CinnamonBits2 / Reddit
I tell my 7-year-old son: “If you tell me the truth, the punishment will not be so bad”, when he goes ahead, he is still being punished, but I explain what would have happened if he had lied. Tell the truth? 10-minute timeout in the corner. To lie? Grounded all night. It works very well. © Inconspicuously_here / Reddit
“Good Things Come To Those Who Wait.”
Please stop waiting and make good things happen. I waited more than 2 years because they promised me that one-day good things would happen to me and everything would improve. When you hit bottom, there is nowhere to go except up, right? Okay, but you will soon discover that the ocean is much deeper than you ever imagined and unless you start swimming it will continue to sink. © fudge_suprem / Reddit
Those who wait and do nothing may not have enough time. If you want something really bad, you have to do something to make it happen. And good things happen for those who deserve them, not for those who just sit back and wait. © Dmytryi Lotov / Bolshoyvopros
“It Doesn’t Matter Who Started It.”
Of course. Even legally, the concept of who made the first is recognized as vital. © ActualTymell / Reddit
Funny story, at school I was bullied every day by the same girls. This went on for months, I did everything you “should” do. My principal’s advice was to get an older student to walk with me … They finally cornered me and beat me. They suspended me because I was involved in a fight. They also used the phrase “it doesn’t matter who started it” with me, it was my fault because they beat me. © MJHansen17 / Reddit
“You Don’t Need Money To Be Happy.”
Usually, this quote is being used by those who are already filthy rich. © dothisnowww / Reddit

“You Can Achieve Anything You Set Your Mind To.”
I have 320,000 subscribers on Instagram. Regardless of what people say, it is very difficult to start developing without investing money. With collaborations, you will progress at the speed of light. You can invest a little money at the beginning, start making money, and invest what you earn in your blog. This is what I did. © Marya Nikitina/nikitina.social

It is always irritating to hear famous/successful people say that if you believe in yourself and try hard enough, you will succeed. Well yes, you were successful, but for you, there are thousands of people who worked so hard and believed in themselves so much but failed. © 53bvo / Reddit
