Japanese Asahi Massage
Some Important Rules
This massage is contraindicated if you have diseases of the lymphatic system, skin rashes, damaged skin, colds, or flu.
Before the procedure, wash your face and rinse your hands with an antiseptic. Use natural oil or cream to reduce friction with the skin.
During massage sessions, you should feel the pressure exerted by your fingers. But it shouldn’t be strong enough to cause discomfort. Relieve the pressure while massaging your ears, the area under your jaw, and your neck (which is where the lymph nodes are located).
You should repeat each massage movement 3 times (and when it comes to problem areas, 4 or 5 times). For maximum effectiveness, perform the Asahi massage at the same time every day.
Basic Movements
Press the fingers of both hands into the areas just below the temples, near the top edge of the ears (Fig. 1). Applying light pressure, slide your fingers down to the clavicle (Fig. 2).
With this gesture, you cause a flow of lymphatic fluid. Repeat 3 times at the beginning of your Asahi session and be sure to do it at the end of each subsequent massage movement.
The Area Around the Eyes
With the pads of your middle fingers, press down on the outer corners of your eyes. Maintaining pressure, gently slide your fingers along the lower lids towards the inner corners of the eyes.
Take a short pause, and move your fingers up, drawing an arch under the eyebrows, and returning to the outer corners of the eyes (Fig. 1).
Then move your fingers from the outer corners to the inside of the eyes again.
Forehead
Press the pads of the index, middle, and ring fingers in the center of the forehead (Fig. 1).
Using zigzag movements, slide your fingers from the center of the forehead to the temples.
The Area Around the Lips
At this stage of the massage session, you need to repeat each step 3-4 times and then finish with the basic movement:
Put both hands on your chin. Press 3 fingers into the center of the chin and move them in a semicircle towards the upper lip (Fig. 1).
Press the tips of the middle fingers on the wings of the nose and move the fingers in semicircles towards the nasal arch and vice versa (Fig. 2).
Slide your fingers from the nasal arch to the cheeks and back (Fig. 3).
Nasolabial Furrows
Put both hands on your chin. Press 3 fingers in the center of the chin (as in the previous movement).
Maintaining pressure, slide your hands towards the inner corner of the eyes, avoiding the lips (fig. 1).
Move your fingers from the inner corners of your eyes toward your temples (Fig. 2).
Oval of the Face
With the palm of your left hand, press down on the left side of the jaw.
Move your right hand from the right outer edge of the jaw to a point just below the inner corner of the eye (Fig. 1).
Move your fingers from the outer corner of the eye to the temple and then do the basic movement on the right side of the face with one hand (Fig. 2).
With your right hand, press down on the right side of your jaw and use your left hand to repeat the same set of movements for the left side of your face.
Cheeks
Place your hands on the sides of your nose and apply pressure with just 3 fingers (fig. 1).
Swipe your fingers across the cheekbones towards the temples (fig. 2).
Put your wrists together, keeping your palms apart (Fig. 1).
Press the tips of your hands over your chin and lips, lifting your cheeks (fig. 2).
Slide the pads of the palms along the cheekbones towards the ears (fig. 3).
