During pregnancy, the human body can go through many physical, emotional, and psychological changes, so much so that they can be difficult to control. These changes can happen suddenly and unexpectedly.
We found 8 unusual pregnancy signs that may go unnoticed, but could mean a new baby is on the way!
Unexpected Signs of Pregnancy
You Develop Skin Tags On Your Body:
Skin tags are fleshy lumps of skin that can develop anywhere on the body during pregnancy due to changes in hormone levels or weight gain. Skin tags usually disappear after delivery.
You Have A Watery Mouth:
Excess saliva, also known as ptyalism gravidarum, is associated with nausea and vomiting. It is not known why this happens, but some pregnant women need paper cups or tissues to control excess saliva.
Food Tastes Like Metal To You:
In early pregnancy, food can have a bitter metallic taste, a phenomenon called dysgeusia. Eating acidic foods or rinsing your teeth with salt or baking soda after brushing can alleviate this awful metallic and acidic taste.
Your Gums Are Sore:
Changes in diet and hormone levels can cause gum sores and bleeding during pregnancy, known as pregnancy gingivitis. This gum disease will go away, but to ease the pain, practice good oral hygiene with gentle brushing.
Your Nose Is Runny:
Rhinitis in pregnancy affects 20% of pregnant women who experience sneezing and a runny nose. These irritating symptoms are temporary and can be treated with regular exercise, humidifiers, nasal sprays, and decongestants.
You Become Short Of Breath:
During the early stages of pregnancy, changes in hormone levels can cause shortness of breath. To improve your breathing during pregnancy, practice good posture and mindful breathing techniques.
You Suddenly Develop A Strong Sense Of Smell:
Pregnant women may have a heightened sense of smell or hyperosmia, especially from perfumes, coffee, gasoline, or spoiled food. Fortunately, hyperosmia is only temporary and ends after the first trimester.
You Crave Non-food Items, Like Rocks Or Soap:
Some pregnant women reported cravings for cornstarch, uncooked rice, chalk, soap, and metal. This craving is known as pica, which is the desire to consume non-food items. If you feel the sudden urge to taste a piece of stone, see your doctor immediately.
